The New Range

x-MEXT is Mitsubishi Electric's new direct expansion room conditioner for data centers. The complete solution consists of the x-MEXT perimeter unit, available with VSD or on/off compressor, and the MEGR and MEDR outdoor heat rejection units, respectively remote condenser, and dry-cooler. The range covers a cooling capacity from 30 to 140 kW, with 3 compact modules, and is available in 10 sizes with variable speed compressor and 14 sizes with on/off compressor, all with R410A refrigerant. x-MEXT offers the best efficiency-footprint ratio on the market, making it the ideal solution for Enterprise DC, DC colocation, battery rooms and UPS rooms.

Top Quality and Innovation

x-MEXT guarantees high quality standards thanks to the adoption of Japanese technical design specifications such as the Kako Tora, which studies and solves the defects found in previous ranges, and the Poka Yoke, which prevents new ones and facilitates maintenance and assistance as much as possible.  To ensure uncompromising performance and reliability, the new product family introduces some highly innovative technologies developed internally, such as the Microchannel evaporator coil and the EC fans with recycled plastic impellers designed specifically for x-MEXT.

High Efficiency

The heat collected by x-MEXT can be disposed of by combining it with different outdoor units: MEGR remote condenser, MEDR dry-cooler or a chiller. The 5 versions available make this unit really versatile. To satisfy different system layouts, 4 configurations of supply / return air are also available.

Simplified Maintenance

To facilitate maintenance and inspections, the filtering section and the components of the refrigerant circuit have been positioned in such a way as to guarantee full frontal access. In addition, the new damper movement allows access to the unit without having to remove any components.

Basic Configuration and Accessories

The unit has a rich configuration even in standard supply with compressor acoustic insulation, fan section grilles, dirty filter sensor, and graphic keypad already included. To meet even the most stringent requirements of IT cooling applications, the unit also features additional accessories available such as the low temperature kit, fast restart, and advanced HMI (Touch screen display, KIPlink).

Thanks to meticulous design combined with a massive series of enthalpy chamber testing, x-MEXT best expresses the great potential of its proprietary technologies and cutting-edge components. The use of our inverter scroll compressors and centrifugal fans, specially designed for this range, guarantees x-MEXT not only perfect cooling capacity modulation in all load conditions, but also and above all market-leading EER efficiency. In addition, the careful study of the layout minimizes the surface occupied by the air conditioners in the server room. This combination of efficiency and compactness achieves the highest levels in its category.

What are the principal technological innovations of the x-MEXT range?

The technological innovation impacts all the main components, which is why its affects are so incisive in the performance of the product. The VSD compressor and driver are developed by a company of our group, which boasts a know-how and experience of the highest level on a global scale. The EC fan has also been developed internally, with a careful study of the impeller, made of 100% recycled plastic material. Finally, the microchannel evaporating coil is a novelty for the sector and brings lower air load losses, a reduction in refrigerant charge of 30% and a compactness of space unattainable with traditional coils.

How does x-MEXT guarantee maximum flexibility?

x-MEXT is a flexible product in many ways. First of all, the range, which with 3 compact modules covers a cooling capacity from 30 to 140 kW, offers 10 sizes with variable speed compressor and 14 with an on/off compressor. There are also 4 air supply/intake configurations to meet the specific needs of each data center. But it doesn't end there. Even on the heat dissipation front, it is possible to opt for different options. Split unit with MEGR remote condenser or packaged unit with integrated water condenser and dissipation with MEDR dry-cooler. In addition, the units can be equipped with an additional chilled water coil, fed by chillers or free-cooling chillers, to have a back-up system or to take advantage of the benefits of hydronic free-cooling. In short, x-MEXT is really able to offer the ideal solution for every type of system.

What are the main advantages of the x-MEXT range in terms of maintenance?

To facilitate the maintenance and inspection processes of the new range, we have chosen to design each model ensuring frontal accessibility to all components: filters, fan, refrigeration circuit. We paid great attention to ergonomics and inserted hinges and guide rails to facilitate the movement of the bulkiest components. All this has been done by putting into practice technical design specifications, part of Mitsubishi Electric's know-how: the Kako Tora that studies and solves the problems encountered in the products of the previous generation and the Poka Yoke, which prevents new possible sources of defects.
