The Background
When the McMahon family began planning their self-build in May 2021, they envisioned an A1-rated, sustainable home that would be fossil-free, energy-efficient and future-ready. Known on Instagram as @the.sustainable.bungalow, where the family documents their journey toward a sustainable, modern home which has eliminated reliance on fossil fuels while reducing energy costs and environmental impact, the McMahons wanted a heating solution that aligned with their values and complemented their airtight, triple-glazed bungalow with Mitsubishi Electric’s Lossnay Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery unit (MVHR).
By June 2024, the family moved into their 278m² home; a space that was completely designed for their growing family. Their previous home had relied on an oil boiler, which meant uneven temperatures, poor insulation and high heating bills. Determined to do better, they never considered any alternative; installing a heat pump was always part of the plan!
