Homeowners in Ireland now have an even stronger financial incentive to switch to low‑carbon heating thanks to significant increases in government support for home energy upgrades under the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s (SEAI) National Residential Retrofit Plan 2026*.

As the manufacturers of the market leading Ecodan heat pump, we are thrilled by these changes, which remove more of the cost barriers that previously held many households back from embracing renewable heating solutions.

Bigger Grants – Bigger Savings

SEAI has announced higher grant amounts across multiple home energy upgrades, making retrofits more affordable and accessible than ever:

  • *Heat Pump System Grants now offer up to €12,500, up from €6,500 previously, by combining:
    • The standard heat pump installation grant
    • A €2,000 support for radiator and pipework upgrades
    • A new €4,000 renewable heating bonus

This enhanced grant applies even to applications already underway that haven’t yet been processed.

Why These Grants Matter for Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are one of the most efficient and sustainable ways to heat a home, but homeowners often face upfront cost concerns. With these enhanced grants:

  • The upfront cost of a heat pump system is significantly offset, meaning more households can realistically make the switch from oil or gas.
  • When paired with improved insulation and upgraded windows/doors, homes become “heat pump ready”, which helps the system operate at peak efficiency, lowering running costs.
  • These grants support phased upgrades, giving homeowners flexibility to improve their home in stages that fit their budget, rather than needing to do everything at once.

What This Means in Practice

Let’s look at a practical example:
A typical modern home upgrading from a fossil boiler to a heat pump could claim:

  • €6,500 for the heat pump itself
  • €2,000 for radiator/pipework upgrades
  • €4,000 renewable heating bonus
Total grant: €12,500 off the cost of installation.

This significantly lowers the net investment, bringing high-efficiency heating within reach for more families while reducing both carbon emissions and energy bills.

A Record Year and Growing Momentum

This change builds on a strong year for home energy upgrades. In 2024, SEAI reported record investment in retrofit grants with tens of thousands of homes improved and thousands of heat pump systems supported.

With the new grant enhancements kicking in, 2026 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for energy‑efficient homes across Ireland.
