Garden rooms have become increasingly popular as remote workspaces, providing a dedicated, quiet environment separate from the hustle and bustle of the main home. However, without proper temperature control, these spaces can become incredibly uncomfortable, especially during extreme weather conditions. In this Marino Dublin based home, the homeowners decided to install two of our MSZ Air Conditioning units to ensure year-round usability and improve their overall comfort.
This 6m x 4m garden room, located at the rear of this home, has been split into two sections; an office and a lounge space. With the addition of a dividing roll back door, the room can transform into one large space. The space was designed with two large double glass doors at either end of the room to allow natural light to filter in, making it the ideal environment for remote working. However, while aesthetically pleasing and functional, it lacked any kind of temperature regulation, making it uncomfortable during the hot summer months and unbearable on cold winter days.
The homeowners found the temperature in their garden room varied significantly, making it unusable during certain months. Hot summer days turned the room into a stifling environment, while cold winter mornings rendered it freezing. Having researched and explored several options, they determined that adding an air conditioning unit with the capacity to both cool and heat was essential for making the space comfortable and practical throughout the entire year. And with remote work becoming a long-term arrangement and teenagers needing somewhere to study, the investment in comfort became even more critical.
The compact size of the garden room posed a challenge in finding an AC solution that would provide effective cooling and heating without taking up too much space. Any installation had to work within the confines of the garden room’s existing frame and design.
Maintaining energy efficiency was a priority. The garden room was insulated traditionally but there was still some heat loss due to large glass doors.
